What is the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley?

A local 24-hour online giving challenge, presented by the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, taking place on May 2, 2017. Contributions benefit local nonprofit organizations. A gift to any of the participating nonprofit organizations will go further this day as a result of a bonus pool.


Why give on May 2, 2017, through giveov.org?

We encourage you to support your local nonprofits with year-round giving, but the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley was created as a special charitable giving day. It's our day to celebrate the Ohio Valley's spirit of generosity and support the work of nonprofits.

How are donated funds amplified?

The Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley is working to secure a bonus pool of funds to be shared by all participating nonprofits receiving donations during the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley. Bonus funds are awarded on a prorated basis and are calculated before any fees are charged. Prorated simply means that the bonus applied to each eligible gift will depend upon the total bonus pool and the total of donations. It is not a dollar for dollar match.

Who can make a donation during the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley?

Anyone can make a donation to a nonprofit that has a profile on giveov.org. You do not have to have an account with the Community Foundation or live in the Ohio Valley to donate. The minimum donation is only $10.

How can I make a donation?

Beginning May 2, 2017, from 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m., go to giveov.org and use your credit card or debit card to donate to any nonprofit that has registered to participate. You can search for a nonprofit by name or by service category or location. Participating nonprofits will have a donation page on giveov.org where you can choose the amount you want to donate from $10 on up.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Donations during the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley are 100% tax deductible. You will immediately receive an email confirming the deduction from the Community Foundation. Please save this email for your records. By selecting a specific charity to receive your donation, your gift is restricted for that charity and will not be given to any other charity. You cannot designate your donation for a specific program at a nonprofit.

What is the minimum and maximum donation amounts?

The minimum donation amount is $10. There is no maximum donation; however, to prevent substantial donations from skewing the allocation of matching funds, maximum donations of $10,000 per donor, per nonprofit organization will qualify for matching funds.

All gifts made on giveov.org are non-refundable.

How much of my donation goes to the nonprofit?

After transaction fees, 94% of your donation goes to the nonprofit. The transaction fee is deducted from the amount donated to the nonprofit, not the matching funds. Matching funds are calculated before fees. The Community Foundation does not receive any portion of the transaction fees.


What organizations are participating in the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley?

Nonprofit organizations who are located in and providing services to residents in the Community Foundation's service area are invited to register. The Community Foundation will verify that they are 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations and are in compliance with IRS 990 requirements. All organizations wishing to participate must complete registration and be in compliance with the eligibility requirements. For a list of participating organizations, please visit our Leaderboard.

Can I give to more than one organization?

You may make multiple donations. Only the nonprofits registered on giveov.org may receive gifts during this event. On the homepage of giveov.org, there will be a multi-give donation form with the option to give to multiple organizations on May 2. You will only have to fill out your personal and payment information once.

Each nonprofit will have a donation form on their profile pages. These forms are only for that particular nonprofit. If you want to make donations to multiple nonprofits, you must use the multi-give form on the giveov.org homepage.

If you choose to make a donation to another nonprofit at a different time during the day on May 2, you will need to re-enter your personal and payment information.

What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley website?

While we encourage participation in the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley, it is not required that nonprofits participate. If your favorite nonprofit does not have a profile on the site, then you cannot use giveov.org to donate to them and they will not be eligible for matching funds on May 2. We're happy to assist you with your charitable giving outside of the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley. Please email us at [email protected] for more information.

Is my gift safe and secure?

Yes. The giveov.org website is powered by Kimbia, and is a secure PCI-Level 1 compliant site for donating to your favorite charities. You can be sure your personal information is protected when you donate through our giveov.org Kimbia platform. Please read KIMBIA's Privacy Policy.

How will I be recognized as a donor?

You will receive an immediate thank you and your tax receipt from the Community Foundation. Your chosen nonprofits may also send a thank you to let you know how your donation will make a difference. You can choose to make an anonymous donation if you prefer. Anonymous donors will receive a tax receipt, but will not receive a thank you from the nonprofit organization to which they contributed.

Will I receive solicitations from the Community Foundation?

We will maintain your contact information to invite all participants to complete an event survey and to communicate with you about future Amazing Raise Ohio Valley events. Donors will be given the opportunity to opt-in to receive further communications from the Foundation should they so choose. We will not sell, trade, or rent your information to other individuals or organizations.

Does it cost anything to give on giveov.org?

There is no fee to you as a donor. You will receive an immediate thank you and tax receipt for 100% of your donation. There are standard credit card and management fees associated with the Kimbia platform. You may choose to add the credit card fees to your final payout or they will be withheld from the final disbursement to nonprofit organizations.

Can my gift be anonymous?

Yes. The nonprofit organization will receive your contact information unless you request that the contribution remain anonymous.

NONPROFIT INFORMATION

What organizations are eligible to participate?

In order to be eligible to participate, nonprofit organizations:

  • Must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in good standing.
  • Must have an office in Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Tyler, or Wetzel Counties in WV or Jefferson or Belmont Counties in OH.
  • Must have the organization's executive director or board member sign a Memorandum of Understanding.
  • Must attend mandatory trainings/kickoff meetings.
  • Nonprofit Orientation: Friday, Febuary 10 at 10:30am at West Virginia Northern Community College - Wheeling
  • Social Media Workshop: Thursday, March 9 at 10:00am - CFOV office - 1310 Market Street, Wheeling
  • Must have or create at least one social media account on Facebook or Twitter.
  • Must complete a profile on KIMBIA's Givingday Manager site, the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley online giving platform.

Why should my organization participate?

The Amazing Raise Ohio Valley is your opportunity to:

  • Raise awareness about your organization
  • Grow your donations and possibly receive additional funds from the bonus pool
  • Reach new donors
  • Build your online fundraising skills

What is required for organizations to participate? Is there a fee?

Registration is required for participation and there is a small participation fee. This fee will be used to market the event. Organizations should prepare to devote time and energy to promoting the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley among donors and social networks. The Community Foundation will provide a communications toolkit and training sessions to participating organizations.

How can I help make the day a success for my organization and our community?

After registering your organization through giveov.org you will receive a toolkit with a timeline for making the day a success for your organization. If you are not currently on social media, set up accounts for your organization now. Follow the Community Foundations Facebook and Twitter for timely updates and prepare to have fun on May 2nd.

Can my organization host a special event?

Yes! We encourage you to plan an event, partner with other participating nonprofits, or connect with a local business to raise awareness about the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley on May 2, 2017.

Can we encourage donations by giving away prizes or free gifts?

No. All gifts made during the Amazing Raise Ohio Valley are to be 100% tax deductible. You cannot offer a premium for gifts made during the event.

When will my organization receive their donations?

You will receive all donations and any bonus pool funds in a single disbursement in June 2017. All disbursements will be made by check. A final distribution report will be included when we mail checks to nonprofits.

What if the amount my nonprofit expected based on the initial results does not match the final disbursement?

Although each nonprofit will be able to see their gifts in real time, please be aware that reconciliation must be completed and, even though gifts are considered nonrefundable, a donation can be revoked for a variety of reasons from the time of receipt to the time of disbursement. Therefore, donation "reports" cannot be considered final until the nonprofit receives the disbursement from the Community Foundation.

Does my organization need to send letters for their tax deductions?

No. The donor will immediately receive an email confirming the gift receipt from the Community Foundation during the event. Note that all donations must be 100% tax deductible (no additional benefits). But we would encourage you to acknowledge donations by following-up with donors and let them know what you will do with their donation.

Will my organization receive donor information for acknowledgments?

Yes. You will have access to donor information during the event. We also encourage you to reach out to your donors after the event and thank them for supporting them your organization.
